Salary:                                     $25.60 - $31.22/HR – 35 Hours per Week

The Human Resources Generalist oversees and administers the human resources responsibilities and activities of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek. As a human resources generalist, you would manage both strategic planning responsibilities and administrative tasks in every area of HR, including recruiting, compensation and benefits and employee training.


Mandatory Requirements

  • A post-secondary education in Human Resources or in a related discipline
  • Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP or CHRL) designation or working toward this designation is preferred
  • 5+ years' experience in an HR Generalist or comparable role
  • Other combinations of experience and education, which meet the minimum requirements, may be substituted.

 Additional Requirements  

  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Canada Labour Code and all legislative requirements
  • Thorough understanding of HR best practices
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with highly confidential information and situations
  • Proven conflict management skills
  • Able to work under minimal supervision and act as a team player
  • Experience in analysis and problem-solving
  • Action oriented individual, who demonstrates high accountability, solid judgment and decision making
  • Ability to coach employees and leaders through difficult situations and supporting them through change
  • Working knowledge of computers and computer software
  • Knowledge of Atikameksheng Anishnawbek culture and traditions


Recruitment and Selection - Assisting in overseeing the recruitment process:

  • Responsible for recruiting personnel at all levels of the First Nation
  • Prepare job postings to advertise for vacancies
  •  Prepare screening tools
  • Prepare interview questions
  •  Set up and conduct interviews
  • Contact with appropriate external recruiter when required
  • Prepare job offers
  • Prepare documentation to obtain approval from management for all hiring


Health and Safety Training

  • Responsible for assisting with the overall Health and Safety within the organization
  • Ensure orientation is provided to new hires
  • Act as a resource to the Joint Health and Safety Committee
  • Ensure health and safety training is provided to staff
  • Investigate accidents as required

Benefits and Pension Administration

  • Responsible for administering the benefits and pension plan for all employees
  • Prepare and distribute all documents for enrolment and payroll
  • Set up individual files
  • Answer inquires relating to benefits and pension
  • Process requests relating to benefits and pension

Salary Administration

  • Responsible for salary administration
  • Prepare and process rate changes with appropriate approvals
  • Prepare and maintain benchmarks for positions
  • Prepare and maintain current job descriptions


Employment Legislation

  • Responsible for following due diligence in regards to employment practices
  • Ensure employment practices follow appropriate employment legislation
  • Read and research to keep current on all changes to applicable employment related legislation and other legislation impacting the First Nation


  • Responsible for ensuring clerical duties are performed in the department
  • Answer telephone inquiries from employees
  • Enter information into training records
  • Prepare documentation related to workplace injuries
  • Prepare meeting packages
  • Maintain employee files
